As spring is approaching Paris with budding leaves and blooming flowers, the mover-and-shakers of fashion and art circles are gathering in this beautiful city for its March Fashion Week. China, the world's second largest economy, joins this global fashion week with a delegation of fashion designers and contemporary artists to display their pride latest creations.
"China in Paris", an event co-organized by China Garments Association and French Federation of Haute Couture which is listed on the official calendar of Paris Fashion Week, will open with an evening Gala "An Evening of No Boundary---Presenting China Contemporary Creativity". As one of the leading contemporary artists from China, Zhong Biao will participate and debut his latest monumental painting measuring 4 meters X 3 meters. The painting, titled "Red", is another important work subsequent to his large painting "To Future" which was exhibited during the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.
Last year in late April during the opening week of Shanghai World Expo, Zhong Biao presented his major work "To future---2010 Zhong Biao Art Scene in Shanghai" with a convergence of various media and formats including painting, installation, literature, performance, Video, music and design at Shanghai Contemporary Museum.
Despite his abundant opportunities to express his progressive art concepts, Zhong Biao continues his soul-searching and external communication like a lonely philosopher in his 40's. " Often times, I discovered the goals I tried so hard to achieve were no longer what I wanted. " he said. When asked about what he really wanted ultimately, he replied firmly with a clear gaze: "Freedom" citing Confucius words with his own interpretation "Freedom to do whatever I want without breaking any rules."
When he was invited to participate in this fashion and art collaboration event during Paris Fashion Week this year, Zhong Biao told the organizer; " This is not cross-over collaboration, there is no boundary between art and fashion. The realm of selflessness is like water. It can float as well as sink a ship. It shapes into whatever the container is. It evaporates to form clouds, which brings us rains, snowflakes. It freezes into rock-solid ice. If we recognize the constant cycles of form and materials, the common boundary and forms of things around us wouldn't bother us. We live in a reality which functions as a container with constantly changing shapes."
As he stands in front of his large painting "Red" to be displayed during the Paris Fashion Week, Zhong Biao said in his usual sanguine and philosophical tone: "Of those vast and broad connections which lie in the depths of reality that part that is recognized by humanity becomes the everyday knowledge of cause and effect, whilst the part that goes unrecognized is known only as imperceptible influences. Therefore, the act of true creativity is to turn the secrets hidden in the depths of reality into common knowledge, to turn the underlying trend of imperceptible influences into vast and surging waves. On such an artistic journey, the life of the individual naturally blends into one with the objective world, and as a result becomes a journey of freedom."
Those who seek shall find what they are looking for. We believe that Zhong Biao will continue to challenge himself, to reach his realm of no boundary, and to move us with endless surprises. We look forward to indulging in Zhong Biao's new discovery of his life-long search for truth.
